How to Transition from Babysitter to NDIS Care Provider on Kiddo

If you’re currently a Babysitter on Kiddo and have noticed our recent update about “NDIS care for kids,” you might be wondering how you can get involved. This blog will explain what NDIS care is, how you can transition from Babysitting to offering NDIS care services, and how you can do this through Kiddo.

What is NDIS Care?

The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is a government initiative designed to support Australians with disabilities. According to the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) website:

National: The NDIS is progressively being introduced across all Australian states and territories.
Disability: It provides support for individuals with intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive, and psychosocial disabilities. It also offers early intervention for children with developmental delays.
Insurance: The NDIS ensures that Australians with permanent and significant disabilities receive the necessary support.
Scheme: Unlike welfare systems, the NDIS aims to improve individuals' skills and independence over time.

The NDIA allocates funding for a variety of services including NDIS care, household assistance (such as gardening and laundry), physiotherapy, and speech therapy. A significant portion of NDIS funding is used to assist with daily activities, which includes providing care, offering overnight stays for parental respite, and engaging in activities that enhance a participant’s life experiences and independence.

Can I get NDIS Jobs as a Babysitter?

Many parents use Kiddo to find both babysitters and dedicated NDIS Support Workers. If you’re a babysitter wondering how you can provide NDIS care. Here’s how to determine if you’re a good fit:

Experience -  Have you previously worked as a support worker? If you enjoy caring for children, transitioning to NDIS care might be a natural progression.
Education - Are you studying fields like Nursing or Physiotherapy? Parents often seek carers with relevant training.
Professional Background - Are you an Educator, OSH Carer, or Teacher with experience in managing children with ASD or ADHD? Many parents prefer carers with formal training in behavioral management and first aid.

Assess your experience and the level of care you can provide. For example, if a parent requires a carer with a year of university-level Nursing education, make sure you meet these qualifications before accepting such roles.
